Resourceful, versatile person to pursue groundbreaking work in the speculative field of human cryopreservation, which entails rapid intervention to prevent brain injury after cardiac arrest, followed by maintenance at a very low temperature.

 

While we realize that applicants are unlikely to possess all of the following attributes, we are hoping to find someone who combines as many as possible:

 General medical knowledge or training.Any experience in dialysis or perfusion.Any background in emergency medicine (EMT, paramedic, emergency room).Surgical skills, especially in raising and cannulating femoral vessels.Any experience in critical care nursing.Background in research using large animal models.Possible veterinary background.Strong interest in lifesaving interventions.Some knowledge of analytical/diagnostic equipment.Willing to consider, explore, and evaluate radically new concepts.

 

We are a small R&D company in South Florida, designing equipment and occasionally delivering emergency procedures for patients who have chosen to be cryopreserved after death is pronounced.

 

Our company is founded on the principle that "death" is not absolute until irreversible brain damage has occurred. Thus, a terminal patient who has been pronounced may still be protected from theoretically irreversible death if brain injury can be delayed indefinitely. To this end, we use a combination of rapid cooling, medications, organ preservation, and existing techniques of cryobiology.

 

We are looking for assistance in these tasks:

 Validation of perfusion circuit for field washout with organ preservation solution.Validation of perfusion circuit for cryoprotection by vitrification.Validation of liquid ventilation system (using a breathable liquid).Creation of a purpose-built operating room.General evaluation of terminal patients.Participation in emergency intervention using:

--Rapid cooling in a purpose-built ice bath.

--Administering medications to mitigate ischemic injury.

--Metabolic support.

--Mechanical cardiopulmonary support to enhance cooling and circulate meds.

--Femoral cutdown to access the circulatory system.

--Perfusion with organ preservation solution.

--Subsequent perfusion with vitrification solution.

--Subsequent analysis of data gathered during a case.

 

After in-house training, we hope that our ideal job candidate may become a team leader during such interventions. In addition we are hoping for an innovator who can upgrade our various procedures or devise new ones.

 

The following attributes are essential:

 Literate, organized, and stable, with a thorough understanding of scientific method and the processes by which new ideas are validated. Able to work in an organized way, finishing one project before starting another. Open-minded but practical. Willing to pitch in with some routine chores. Honest, trustworthy, and hard-working, requiring minimal supervision.

Remuneration

 

Pay will depend on prior experience, qualifications, knowledge, and innovative ability, but will be no lower than $75,000. We allow 4 weeks vacation/sick days per year, and we have a 401(k) plan, health insurance, and dental coverage.
