Navigator II

Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) is the official cancer institute for the State of Nevada. NVCI?s mission is to develop a comprehensive cancer research institute staffed by the finest scientists, clinicians and caregivers, to provide hope for the community through research, prevention, detection, education, support and patient-centered care by striving for a future without cancer through innovative translational research in basic, clinical and population science. A non-profit organization, NVCI opened a 142,000 square foot flagship research and care facility in the Summerlin district of Las Vegas that opened in September 2005. 

 

Position Summary:

Provides insurance case management and navigation services for patients in the community and through referral service agreements (i.e., Culinary Union Project).

 

Essential Responsibilities:

1)  Completes and submits all applications for patient appropriate programs at the County, State and Federal level (Medicaid, Medicare, etc.) in partnership with Trinity Health Services.

2)  Responsible for following Federal, State and County regulations in dealing with government entitlement programs.

3)  Coordinates navigation services in partnership with existing staff volunteers.

4)  Assists in the development of referral systems in the communities that are serves by NVCI.

5)  Assists the Navigation Services department in the promotion of the services provided to the cancer patients and family members by NVCI.

6)  Ensures that patient intake information is accurate and complete.

7)  Follows through with the Data Manager to ensure that the information is added to the database.

8)  Follows through by tracking case status (requests for services information and/or materials) on a regular basis by gathering status information from the patient and/or agency until the case is resolved.

9)  Provides monthly patient information and ongoing case notes into appropriate database.

10)  Provides monthly navigation service reports

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1)  Bachelor?s Degree or Advanced degree in Healthcare related field.

2)  Minimum of three (3) years experience in healthcare related financial, billing and government programs with a focus on case management.

3)  Must have a working knowledge of standard physician billing practices.

4)  Knowledge of community resources and programs

5)  Certified Health Educator

6)  Bi-lingual English/Spanish certification to translate medical and service information to patients and family members.

7)  Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.

8)  Demonstrated effectiveness in program implementation and follow through.
