NURSE PRACTITIONER/PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT - ORTHOPEDICS
$68,800 - $102,600
The successful candidate will perform comprehensive and problem focused histories and physical examinations of acute and chronically injured patients; pre-operative and post-operative evaluations; and on-going orthopedic problems. You will order, interpret, and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures as directed which will include X-rays and therapies as appropriate. You will also perform office surgical procedures such as suturing of the skin, selected injections and aspirations, removal of foreign objects, suture removal, selected reductions and manipulations, and I&D wound care. Ordering, prescribing, dispensing, and administering medication, orthosis, orthotics, braces, and other orthopedic devices as appropriate is a duty of this position. Providing surgical services as a first assistant on orthopedic cases in the operating room as directed and performing inpatient rounds on orthopedic patients under the direction of the Orthopedist is necessary. This includes documentation of admission H&Ps, daily progress notes and orders, discharge summary, wound care, and ordering/analyzing lab results. You will also respond to telephone calls/concerns of patients in a timely manner or as defined in established department protocols and provide team coverage as needed or requested by the supervising physician within the scope of practice and other duties as assigned
The qualified candidate will be a graduate of ANA-approved Nurse Practitioner or AMA-approved Physician Assistant training program and possess license, registration, certificate, and/or a professional affiliation. State medical license and prescribing registration are required. NP - National State Certification, State RN License, and NP registration is also required. You must have thorough and working knowledge of orthopedic diseases and injuries and their medical/surgical treatment. Knowledge of surgical techniques and working knowledge of state health care laws, licensing board regulations, and controlled substance regulations is necessary. The ability to assess, diagnose, and plan effective treatment for orthopedic diseases and injuries and to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, and to interface with physician and support staff are necessary. You must have excellent assistant surgery skills as well as minor surgery skills. The ability to evaluate X-rays, determine bone and/or joint abnormality, prioritize and organize daily tasks, and adapt/respond to multiple demands are required. A minimum of 4 years clinical experience in musculoskeletal trauma evaluation and treatment and a minimum of 4 years surgical procedure experience, with emphasis on orthopedic procedures is preferred.
