OPERATING ROOM SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST

Schedule:
Full-time 72hrs per pay period, eve. shift, 11:00am - 11:30pm various days, and weekends

Description:

OPERATING ROOM SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST provides patient and family focused care as part of the health care team in accordance with SCMC mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures in the main Operating Room.

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with SCMC policies and procedures in accordance with AORN Standards and recommended practices.

1. Creates and maintains a sterile field and anticipates the need for equipment and supplies based on a patient's needs.
2. Demonstrates ability to apply appropriate surgical techniques independently in the scrub role.
3. Follows established policies and procedures for counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments.
4. Implements established policies and procedures for the care of specimens and tissue.
5. Facilitates the flow of the surgery schedule.
6. Demonstrates accountability in actions of patient care.

Requirements:
Education: High school graduation or GED equivalent plus graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist Program.

Registration: Certification through the National Surgical Technologist Association.

Experience: Six months plus experience in an active operating room preferred.

Job Knowledge: Must have a basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and bacteriology. Good knowledge and application of surgical principles, aseptic techniques and equipment used in surgery. Must have a thorough working knowledge of all instruments used in surgical procedures.

Computer Literacy: Ability to learn and apply basic computer skills including locating and opening documents, completing forms, opening and sending e-mail messages.
