Outpatient Clerk/Receptionist

Under the supervision of the Admissions Coordinator or Assistant Administrator, assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating activities occurring in the outpatient wound care and rehab clinic. Performs clerical and receptionist duties and maintains the physical environment.

Responsibilities
? Displays professional demeanor and communication towards all patients, family members and hospital employees.

? Arranges transportation for outside services provided to patients, if necessary; assures completion of documentation (including Administration approval), notifies appropriate departments if necessary.

? Prepares documentation for patient admissions: chart (paper and VenTouch), records, stamper plates; verifies admissions with wound care nurse and Admissions Coordinator.

? Performs data entry and audit functions for inpatient as well as outpatient admissions.

? Maintains paper charts in proper order, as well as filing physician dictation, obtaining laboratory reports from Protouch and filing them as well.

? Ensures purchase requisitions are delivered to Administration and Purchasing.

? Prepares documentation for charges.

? Updates and maintains outpatient schedule.

? Completes pre-certification for selected outpatient services.

? Obtains all necessary signatures for outpatients receiving services.

? Completes special assignments and returns information requested.

? Obtains paper chart from medical records department prior to scheduled appointment.

? Notify patient of scheduled outpatient appointment 24 hours in advance.

? Screen outside telephone calls for Dr. Wilkins and Dr. Arakelova. Transfer to physician voice mail when appropriate.

? Participates in the Hazardous Materials Program. Hazards include exposure to blood and body fluids, possible communicable diseases, sharp objects and instruments, assorted chemicals and gases as listed in the Hazardous Materials Program Manual.

? Develops an understanding of responsibilities for participation in QI activities.

Qualifications:
? High school diploma required
? CNA experience preferred
? Ability to work independently, self-directed
? Knowledge of medical terminology
? Competent with VenTouch documentation system
? Competent with Microsoft Word and Excel
