Primary Duties and Responsibilities
May see only those patients of a designated supervising physician to perform or assist in performing the following services:

1. Obtain vital signs.

2. Administer local infiltrative anesthesia.

3. Suture simple lacerations.

4. Remove sutures, suture clips, or staples.

5. Pack and remove packing.

6. Clean and debride wounds.

7. Perform incisions and drainage of superficial abscess.

8. Obtain cultures.

9. Apply dressings, bandages, or splints.

10. Remove drains.

11. Nasal packing for epistaxis.

12. Nasogastric tube insertion.

13. Insertion of indwelling urinary catheters.

14. Start intravenous catheters.

15. Obtain arterial/venous blood samples.

16. Manage cardiorespiratory arrest utilizing cardiac life support
With attending emergency physician.

17. Assist the ED Physician with care and treatment of Category I and II Trauma

Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree. Graduate of a Committee on Allied Health, Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) approved program. Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Certification for Family Nurse Practitioner is offered to graduates of approved Masters and Post Masters level adult and family nurse practitioner programs. ACLS and PALS certification, as required.
