We are currently seeking a Patient Advocate Position located at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL
The job description of the Patient Advocate is as follows:
Employee will apply the policies and procedures that have been established for various government and non-government programs. Assists facilities by screening self-pay patients to secure potential financial assistance for which they may be eligible. Understands and adheres to all local, State & Federal regulations relevant to area of operation.
Reviews and evaluates facility and account information on self-pay accounts. Conducts interviews with patients and/or family members to identify any potential coverage or benefits for which they may be eligible. Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
Educates the patient and/or family members concerning governmental and non-governmental financial assistance programs. Acts as patient's authorized representative assisting in completing and submitting required documentation with the appropriate agency. Coordinates the transportation and representation for the interview.
Monitors and maintains follow-up with all applicable Federal, State, or County agencies on all pending cases to expedite the disposition of each case.
Reviews and evaluates denied cases for account resolution. Direct contact with hospital patients may be required, so must be able to work with the public under stressful conditions
Must have reliable means of transportation to travel to other facilities on a moment's notice.
REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior work experience with Social Services or in Hospital Admitting or Business Office preferred. Working familiarity with the rules and regulations pertaining to Federal, State & County programs preferred. Strong interpersonal skills needed, as well as verbal&written communication skills. Typing and computer skills needed. Must have a general understanding of Microsoft Office such as Word and Excel programs. Due to the possibility of daily travel to local facilities, proof of a valid driver's license and appropriate insurance may be required and subject to review. Bi-lingual in Spanish REQUIRED. MUST have DCF eligibility worker experience with vast knowledge of DCF processing screens and eligibility policy. Prior Medical Eligibility follow up experience is a plus. Spanish and Creole would be a PLUS, but spanish is a must.
