Patient Safety Officer

Under the supervision of the Vice President/Chief Medical Officer with latitude for independent decision making, this position plans, directs, and coordinates the activities related to enhancing Patient Safety within Sun Health facilities and services. The position works in close coordination with system leadership, department heads and medical staff to improve processes and programs related to Patient Safety and coordinates efforts to ensure compliance with requirements of regulatory bodies and accrediting agencies. This position provides or supports service to internal/external customers.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required. Must have prior experience in a clinical setting (nursing, laboratory, or other patient care area) in order to have familiarity with patient care processes in a hospital setting. Five years of program management experience or suitable equivalent with additional training in business management concepts is preferred. Demonstrated experience with patient safety analysis techniques including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis and formal risk analysis such as Failure, Mode, Effects, Criticality Analysis (FMECA). Requires comprehensive knowledge of the range of administrative laws, policies, regulations, accrediting standards and precedents applicable to the administration of the patient safety program. Must have strong organizational and excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as an ability to work in a teamwork environment. Ability to work independently with minimal direction, and a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and implement new skills and knowledge.
