Risk Managment Consultant - Healthcare Risk Manager
Professional and General Liability Lines


Risk Manager Consultant responsible for the overall risk control assessment, evaluation, consulting and technical support of risk exposures in support of CNA's HealthPro -Med Mal Underwriting Organization. The successful candidate will conduct risk analysis to support the underwriting decision making process and provide consultative and education services to a variety of healthcare clients, including long term care. Accounts will include General Liability and Professional Liability for hospitals, integrated delivery systems, allied health care facilities, and large physician groups. Coverages will include primary and umbrella coverages. Recognized as a technical expert in a specialty area.  Under general management direction, works within broad limits of authority requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination. 



Performs a combination of the following duties according to departmental guidelines:
1. Performs workplace/work site risk evaluation and consultative risk improvement services which may include large and/or special accounts of some complexity.
2. Controls loss exposure and costs, and ensures underwriting profit through risk determination for underwriting.
3. Assesses customer's program needs and develops and executes a customized strategy and supporting implementation plan.
4. Partners with underwriting and other areas to provide information for risk evaluation and assessment.
5. Makes recommendations on the development and implementation of risk control policy, marketing and business strategy.  6. Develops and maintains business relationships with internal and external business partners.
7. Stays up to date on trends and developments within the area as well as the insurance industry.  May represent the company in industry trade groups.
8. May identify opportunities for new products and services.
9. May develop and conduct education and training programs.
10. May provide expertise in specialty areas such as industrial hygiene and safety, fire prevention, workers compensation, general liability, etc.


Additional Responsibilities 
1. May provide guidance and assistance to other risk control staff and other functional areas.
2. May be responsible for special projects and presentations.
3. Performs other essential duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Advanced technical and product specific expertise, risk control evaluation and assessment skills and knowledge of insurance and risk control principles, practices and procedures.
2. Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.  Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
3. Strong organizational skills. 
4. Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
5. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
6. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems. 
7. Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software. 
9. Ability and willingness to travel extensvely. 30-35%


Education and Experience
1.  Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.  Professional designations preferred.


2.  Minimum five to eight years risk control experience with proven track record of results.


3.  Prior clinical experience required with degree in healthcare field. Master's degree preferred.
