Celebrating six decades of Making Cancer History, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is located in Houston on the sprawling campus of the Texas Medical Center. It is one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.

M. D. Anderson was created by the Texas Legislature in 1941 as a component of The University of Texas System, and the faculty numbers 947 - both M.D.s and Ph.D.s. M. D. Anderson is one of the nation's original three Comprehensive Cancer Centers designated by the National Cancer Act of 1971 and is one of 39 such centers today.

M. D. Anderson ranks among the nation's top two cancer hospitals in U.S. News & World Reports 'America's Best Hospitals' survey since its inception 13 years ago.

Function: Provides technical assistance in carrying out various research projects in a Molecular Biology Laboratory.

Scope: Responsible for performing technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans.

Essential Functions:

1. Proficient in cell culture, tissue culture, electrophoresis, protein phosphorylation.
2. Plan and be responsible for the ordering and maintenance of all required equipment.
3. Enter and maintain data from research activities in notebook/computer databases as appropriate.
4. Design and perform mouse experiments
5. Assist laboratory coordinator in preparation of reagents and buffers.

SUPERVISION:

1. Received: Work is performend in collaboration with or under the direction of a Senior Research Assistant and/or a member of the professional staff.

Given: Monitors subordinat e Research Assistants, Research Technicians, and Laboratory Technical Assistants.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred: Master's degree with major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Required: Two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.

WORK CONDITIONS;

Laboratory environment which may involve occasional exposure to hazardous equipment and materials.
