Supervises:Freelance Interpreters 

 

The Sign Language Interpreter will interpret between American Sign Language and spoken English.  The Interpreter will be available as needed by Deaf clients and staff and hearing clients and staff.

 

Interpret between American Sign Language and spoken English (and vice versa) as needed be Deaf clients and staff and hearing clients and staff. Responsible for coordination of freelance interpreters as needed for special meetings/events or situations where more than on interpreter is needed.

Maintain a log to track use in interpreters.

 

Requirements

Good Communication Skills, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of HIV/AIDS, substance use, homelessness and mental illness.

Work in main office (594 Broadway) and out in the field.

 

 

Qualifications

Fluency in American Sign Language, Bachelor?s degree in Human Services or related field is preferred, completion of Interpreter Training program, two or more years experience in the field of interpreting, knowledge of and adherence to the RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Code of Ethics, ability to interpret in HIV/AIDS, substance use, mental health, and medical settings. May require some overtime.
