Sleep Tech Needed for Vivacious Austin Company

VitalSleep is recruiting  individuals to work full-time, part-time, or PRN as a sleep technician (polysomnographic technician).  The qualified person will have a positive attitude and excellent personality, with friendly and effective communication skills. This person will also exhibit personal responsibility and a neat appearance. This is a night position and requires travel to our various facilities around Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown.  Work experience as a polysomnographic technician is preferred, but not required.JOB SUMMARY

The Polysomnographic Technician works under medical supervision of the diagnostic supervisor to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms.  Performs adequate data tabulation to assist physicians in the interpretation of sleep studies.  Cross-trains in EEG.  Rotates call as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL  FUNCTIONS  Functions independently to safely operate and calibrate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology.

 Performs proper and safe application and removal of electrodes and other monitoring devices to the patients.

 Ensures safety and welfare of all patients, including neonate/infant, pediatric and psychiatric patients with special needs.

 Reviews information in patient records, examines orders and protocols for sleep study.

 Interviews patients, acquires all necessary information and completes assessments.

 Maintains appropriate and consistent cleaning/sterilization of equipment, accessories, and work areas.

 Assists patient with hygiene as necessary.

 Follow protocols/procedures as assigned to monitor the patient and polysomnograms.

 Monitor patients and recordings and recognize sleep pathology when it occurs and respond with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety. 

 Assist in data tabulation and interpretation of sleep studies.

 Administer oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure and employ ventilator assist devices in accordance with established protocols. 

 Maintains equipment (clean, sterilize, properly pack, etc.) and corrects equipment malfunctions (trouble-shooting) when possible.

 Complies with Universal Infection Control procedures, and appropriately handles hazardous materials.

 Cross-trains in EEG.

 Travel required.

 JOB SPECIFICATIONS

1.  License:   Valid Texas State Driver?s License

  Must be certified in Basic Life Support (adult, child, and infant) or be

willing to become certified

 

2.  Education:  High school diploma or equivalent (GED) mandatory.

  Some post secondary or college education in science or health-related

area is preferred.

  Knowledge of normal cardio respiratory, neurological and sleep

physiology preferred.

 

3.  Experience:  6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training, or

equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

but not required.

  Previous experience in an allied health field helpful but not required.

 

4. Skills:  Strong organizational skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept

  direction on given assignments.

Able to work collectively with sleep associates.

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and

  personal services.  This includes customer needs assessment

  meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of

customer satisfaction.

  Able to work with a variety of different people.

  Able to work well under time constraints and in stressful conditions.

  Good computer skills.

 

 

 

JOB CONTEXT:  Indoors, office, scrubs and tennis shoes, occasional outside environmental conditions; protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes when inside.  No environmental or job hazards.
