Sr Clinical Dietitian
Celebrating six decades of Making Cancer History, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is located in Houston on the sprawling campus of the Texas Medical Center. It is one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.
M. D. Anderson was created by the Texas Legislature in 1941 as a component of The University of Texas System, and the faculty numbers 947 - both M.D.s and Ph.D.s. M. D. Anderson is one of the nation's original three Comprehensive Cancer Centers designated by the National Cancer Act of 1971 and is one of 39 such centers today.
M. D. Anderson ranks among the nation's top two cancer hospitals in U.S. News & World Reports 'America's Best Hospitals' survey since its inception 13 years ago.
Note: This is a part-time position.
SUMMARY: Function: Provides direct nutrition care to patients with complex medical conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Scope: Impacts the nutrition care management of all patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides quality nutrition care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, nutrition status, and other needs in an acute care environment, as well as within the clinics as appropriate. Serves as preceptor to Dietetic Interns. Participates in development/training of dietetic interns. Participates in ongoing professional and community education as appropriate. Provides a comprehensive assessment of nutritional status, determines patient's nutrient needs and develops a comprehensive plan of care by using department-established guidelines. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team individually and in group meetings in recommending, implementing, and monitoring of nutrition interventions. Documents care in the medical record. Provides ongoing or follow-up care according to established time frames and reassessment criteria. Identifies and provides for patient and family education needs. Participates in quality improvement efforts. Develops and revises departmental diet manual, formulary, practice guidelines and educational resources
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:

SUPERVISION: Received: Direct supervision by the Clinical Nutrition Manager. Indirect supervision by the Director of Clinical Nutrition.

WORK CONDITIONS:
Clinical Environment, patient care area.
Refer to the Position Description for specific ADA requirements and patient age-related information.
EDUCATION: Required: Bachelors degree in nutrition, dietetics or a related field along with completion of an American Dietetic Association (ADA) approved dietetic internship or its equivalent.
Preferred: Masters degree in nutrition or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Five years clinical experience or
Four years clinical experience and Advanced degree or
Three years clinical experience and Certification in Nutrition Support.
Preferred: Five years of experience in an acute care setting, in a tertiary, acute care teaching/research facility.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required: All of the following:
Current Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Current Licensed Dietitian (LD) with Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
Preferred: Certification in Nutrition Support (CNSD) or similar advanced practice certification relevant to position.
