BILLING SPECIALIST

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
Under general supervision, the Billing Specialist is responsible for overall insurance billing, patient billing, patient accounts, credit, collection, and related activities for several pharmacies simultaneously.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Billing Specialist oversees all facets of daily billing operations for assigned pharmacy units, through the use of in line and manual claims submission.
? Follows appropriate billing procedures for follow-up on third party payment and collection of overdue patient accounts.
? Reviews and resolves problems concerning the provision of pharmacy services which impact the ability to collect charges and/or the willingness of patients to pay as required.
? Prepares and maintains required records, files, and reports on billing and collection activities.

? Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of patient attitudes, in a diverse environment.
? Knowledge of health care billing procedures, documentation, and standards.
? Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage various work assignments in a fast paced environment.
? Knowledge of credit and collection principles, processes, regulations, and standards.
? Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
? Knowledge of appropriate billing and payment cycles for medical accounts.
? Knowledge of operational characteristics and procedural requirements of third party medical insurance payors.
? Knowledge of procedural requirements and ethical standards for the follow-up of overdue accounts.
? Ability to accurately maintain recordkeeping systems and related procedures.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED with at least three (3) years medical billing experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. PHARMACY BILLING experience a plus.
