Job Summary:

Provide clinical pharmacy direction for the health plan including, but not limited to Disease Management, Pharmacy, Utilization and Quality Management. Provides drug utilization review and intervention targeting high utilizing physicians reviewing prescribing patterns including non-preferred drugs and quality indicators. Make recommendations on prescribing practices to reduce costs.

 

The Director shall supervise a clinical pharmacist who shall prepare

This shall include drug review evaluations for The Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee; prepare agendas and distribution of minutes. Provides in-service education to the nursing staff, pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and medical directors. Assists in development of goals and objectives for the clinical pharmacy programs. Serves as resource for drug information. Assists in developing continuing education programs for physicians and nurses.

 

The Director shall through self or others provide an unbiased source of

drug information to the health plan and participating physicians.

 

The Director shall supervise the injectable drug and home infusion programs for the company.

 

Essential Functions:

Review prescribing practices high utilizing physicians and intervening as needed providing drug information on pharmacy expenses Recommending changes in prescribing practices to improve quality and lower costs.Provide detailed claim analysis for over and under utilizationReview pharmacy data to look for savings opportunitiesClinical pharmacy support for Pharmacy, Disease Management programs, Quality and Utilization Management with and emphasis on Diabetes and asthma.Provide drug evaluation reviews for the P&T Committee.Provide In service education to staff.Provides drug utilization reviews as needed.



Education/Experience: Pharm D or BS Pharmacy10+ years experience in managed careOhio or State of residence Pharmacy license

 



Communication and Numeric Skills:Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to use pharmaceutical and medical reference, literature to provide drug information to the health plan.  . The ability to evaluate information from both oral and written sources and develops clear, concise and crisp reports.  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others.Ability to evaluate financially the impact of drug products.

 

Computer Skills:Use Microsoft products including Word and Excel.
