Research Specialist, Pharmaceutical Policy and Outcomes Research

SUMMARY
Function: Develop pharmaceutical outcomes research activities, which include, but are not limited to, clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes of pharmaceutical products and services. Develop and participate in original research for publication and presentation. Assist the clinical staff with research opportunities. Provide educational opportunities and expand the knowledge of pharmaceutical outcomes research both within and outside the institution. Provide analysis and evaluation of drug use outcomes for drug policy decision-making. Participate in institutional committees and assist in developing programs to translate research into practice. Assure consistent compliance with the mission, vision, objectives and policies of the institution. Advance the practice of pharmaceutical care in a patient-focused oncology pharmacy.
Scope: The scope of the position as defined in accordance with the policies and procedures of the institution and the Division of Pharmacy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Develop programs and projects to evaluate the outcomes of pharmaceutical products and services. Conceptualize project; develop methods to execute project; identify data sources; collect and analyze data; and present findings with recommendations.
2. Develop and participate in original research for publication and presentation.
3. Serve on institutional committees.
4. Provide educational opportunities within and outside the institution by precepting residents, students, and interns. Provide research results and information pertinent to patient education and the practice of pharmaceutical care. Participate in professional meeting as presenters and invited speakers/lecturers. Provides a significant level of education to professionals, trainees, and patients. Responsible for monitoring and assessing performance of the learner and providing feedback using appropriate learning objective that are aligned with the desired learning outcomes.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs financial analysis for the drug component of clinical trials.
2. Assist in analysis for strategic planning.
3. Assists in other department projects related to economic analysis.
4. Participates in the performance improvement activities.
5. Performs related duties as required.

Received: Supervision from Director, Pharmaceutical Policy and Outcomes Research
Given: Administrative Assistant.
EDUCATION
Required: B.S. in Pharmacy with Graduate degree or Pharm.D. Degree
EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum of five years of experience in a large community or teaching hospital.
Preferred: Experience with financial and clinical analysis.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Required: Registered Pharmacist in the State of Texas
WORKING CONDITIONS
Uses computer keyboard and visually reads computer screens and written documents daily. Lift items approximately 10 lbs. Physically travels throughout the institution complex. Bends from the waist and reaches above the shoulders.
