CRITICAL CARE UNIT RN

Schedule:
RN INTERN Full-time 72 hrs per pay period, day shift 7 am-7:30 pm, various days, every other weekend

Description:

CRITICAL CARE UNIT RN INTERN provides patient and family focused care as part of the health care team in accordance with CHC mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures while applying standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
Maintains reliable and consistent attendance. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques and applies this knowledge in accordance with CHC policies and procedures and within laws and regulations governing nursing practice in the State of Oregon
1. Assigns or delegates to others nursing measures which the person is prepared to perform and qualified to perform and are within that person's practice/scope of duties.
2. Supervises others to whom nursing interventions have been assigned or delegated.
3. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation when: assessing the patient's condition and needs:, setting outcomes; implementing appropriate nursing actions to meet the patient's/family's physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs; and evaluating patient's progress.
4. Maintains a constant awareness of the legal aspects of nursing and demonstrates this in decisions regarding patient care within the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice.
5. Demonstrates system based assessments identifying patient problems and needs with appropriate interventions to achieve desirable outcomes.
6. Functions as a member of the Care Management Team to assure nursing care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost effective manner, discharge planning is carried out, and the medical regime for each patient is implemented as prescribed by the physician. Delegates/assigns tasks/duties to other members of the care team as appropriate.
7. Participates with team members in facilitating patient's and family's learning throughout the hospital experience in preparation for discharge. Reinforces patient's continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up.
8. Provides safe and accurate IV and enteral therapy.
9. Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately using the 5 Rights" of medication administration.
10. Must be able to travel to Portland for course work, which involves six 8-hour days.

Requirements:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Registration: Current licensure with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

Experience: Basic-nursing skills required. Require one to two years medical surgical experience. Current ACLS, PALS (if caring for the pediatric patient), and TNCC or TEAM certification or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.

Job Knowledge: Concepts of medical and surgical asepsis and the disease process. Basic knowledge of psychosocial concepts and critical thinking skills required.

Computer Literacy: Ability to learn and apply basic computer skills including locating and opening documents, completing forms, opening and sending e-mail messages.
