Position Title: Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator

 

Position Description: This individual will manage all aspects related to conducting Diabetes and Immunology-related clinical research trials for the Clinical Research Office of the Yale School of Medicine. Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) and other team members to prepare and review protocols and consent form for submission to HIC; serve as the primary contact for HIC; complete an in-depth clinical feasibility assessment; assist in the budget process by identifying costs and areas of potential increased workload for clinical staff; coordinate/conduct in-service programs prior to study initiation; obtain patient histories and informed consent; and assist in the preparation of IRB, PRC, and GCRC applications. Will also ensure all protocol guidelines are followed and documented; oversee personnel in the scheduling of patient visits, clinical tests, and specimen collection; review laboratory data and communicate abnormal values to PI; assess subject response to therapy and evaluate for adverse events; monitor study subjects treated at other sites; oversee CRF completion for each subject; ensure all documentation is complete; and monitor adverse events and report to PI as needed.  

 

The Nurse Coordinator will also develop source documentation collection forms and protocol follow-up worksheets; assist with preparation of regulatory applications; coordinate use of all relevant clinical treatment areas; oversee follow-up of study subjects during post-treatment phase; and attend study-related meetings.

 

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, plus a CT RN license and graduation from an accredited nursing or physician assistant school. Applicants must have at least three years of clinical research coordination experience, some experience with patient recruitment, a strong background in diabetes/endocrinology, and the management ability necessary to oversee clinical, clerical, and ancillary nursing staff. Five years of clinical nursing or PA experience is preferred. Must have superior communication skills, excellent interactive skills in dealing with patients, physicians, and staff, and excellent organizational, project management, and analytical abilities. Must be able to meet demanding time constraints, maintain the confidentiality of all data and serve as a patient advocate, and possess a professional phone and office manner. We are looking for an individual who can work independently and will be flexible and willing to adjust to the needs of the job. Very strong computer skills are necessary to facilitate efficient data gathering, record keeping, and HIC submissions. Experience with Access, Excel, and PDAs, or the ability to learn new programs, is essential.
