Department Director - Critical Care

The Inpatient Care Division at Borgess has a current leadership opportunity overseeing the Critical Care units. This position will focus on our 34 bed Critical Care area including; CCU, CSU, NCU, STICU and ICU. Borgess Medical Center offers the only Neuro ICU (Intensive Care Unit) in southwest Michigan, along with full diagnostic facilities, two neurosurgery suites, full rehabilitation services, continuing care and monitoring of nervous system disorders. A recent innovation for both units is our Virtual ICU, first and only in the state, which provides off-site electronic monitoring of critical care patients and implementation of an Intensivist based program with a dedicated highly experienced critical care nursing staff.

This position reports to the Division Director and is responsible for directing, planning, and coordinating the operations of a patient care department(s) on a 24-hour basis. The incumbent is expected to achieve department and organizational goals while ensuring optimal outcomes for designated patient populations within the approved operating budget. Individuals will establish productive working relationships with physicians in their areas and promote employee engagement with all associates. Through effective leadership, the behaviors consistent with system values, effective service delivery, efficient decision making, high levels of customer service, and produce work that is of high quality and cost efficient and demonstrated. Direct reports to this position include: Assistant Department Director, Unit Based Educator and Staff RN's.Current Michigan RN Licensure required. Bachelor?s Degree in Nursing or health related field required. Master?s Degree required or initiated within 1 year with required completion in 5 years. A minimum of 5 years of current clinical experience in a comparable setting for defined department with progressive management and leadership experience required. Demonstrate skills in problem solving; planning and setting priorities, and addressing complex issues for a defined department(s) to achieve expectations. Communication and Interpersonal skills required; must be able to address customer/staff issues utilizing basic concepts of relationships centered care. Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to anticipate and respond effectively to changes in direction and principles.
