Director of Patient Care Services- DPCS

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) is responsible for the direct and indirect nursing care of all patients as well as overall direction and supervision of clinical and non-clinical personnel within the assigned facility/unit. Collaborates with the clinical team members and physicians to provide optimum services to long tem acute care patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric experiencing medically complex conditions, general medical-surgical conditions, with rehabilitation and/or wound care needs. The DPCS satisfies the established standards of nursing practice and supervises, delegates, and coordinates personnel assigned to care for the patients in the assigned nursing care unit(s). Promotes teamwork with physicians and personnel of other clinical and non-clinical departments. The DPCS is able to advocate the vision and strategic direction for the practice of nursing and enforces strategies for recruitment, recognition and retention of staff. Facilitates integrated approach to patient care and coordinates care among all disciplines. The DPCS is responsible for implementing systems for facilitating customer satisfaction. Exercises leadership responsibilities in communicating with physicians and acts in the absence of the Chief Nursing officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
? Ability to project a professional Image.
? Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
? Knowledge of techniques and methods of patient care services and instructions for patients and their families
? Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations.
? Familiarity with organization and function of all departments, with policies, regulations and procedures of the departments.
? Strong communication, organizational and analytical skills.
? Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (Word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)
? Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.
? Freedom from illegal use of drugs.
? Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing. Bachelor?s degree in nursing or healthcare preferred. Masters degree desired. Five (5) years management or supervisory experience in long-term acute care, short-term acute care, restorative or geriatric nursing preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
A Registered Nurse who is currently licensed to practice by the state of employment. Must maintain current provider CPR certification throughout employment. ACLS certification required within 6 months of employment. Additional certification in nursing specialty desired.
