Director of Plant Operations

Job Purpose:

Provides a safe, sound, legally compliant, and continuously operating environment for patients, guests, and employees by providing equipment and systems installation and maintenance; directing facilities engineering and energy conservation efforts; eliminating or minimizing employee exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.



Duties:

* Accomplishes plant engineering human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.



* Achieves plant engineering operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to functional strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; analyzing inspection reports, consulting with officials concerning user needs; making in-house/contract decisions; analyzing shop capabilities; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.



* Meets plant engineering financial objectives by estimating requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions; designing and administering external services contracts.



* Keeps equipment operating by planning and controlling the operation of high-pressure boilers, heating, sterilizing, lighting, air conditioning and ventilating, plumbing, refrigeration, kitchen, pneumatic and electrical communication and other mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment.



* Maintains equipment by applying engineering techniques and design; developing specifications for recurring preventive maintenance and equipment inspections, calibrations, and servicing; establishing policy for selecting engineering consultants; ensuring adherence to that policy; directing contract engineers and technicians in condition inspection, planning, estimating, utilities engineering, energy and project management; controlling procedures, standards, and work schedules.



* Reduces energy consumption and costs by considering long- and short-term energy requirements; researching and implementing cost-saving systems.



* Keeps employees safe by eliminating or minimizing employee occupational exposure to blood or other infectious body fluids; enforcing precautions when handling blood or other potentially infectious materials.



* Plans project objectives by collecting relevant information; identifying short-term and long-range issues; identifying and evaluating options; choosing a course of action.



* Manages project expectations by communicating project status and issues; resolving concerns; analyzing time and cost issues; preparing reports.



* Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by developing policy positions concerning federal, state, and local regulations, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards; anticipating emerging issues.



* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.



* Accomplishes goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
