Director of Surgical Services/Registered Nurse

The 15,000 square foot Healthplex was completed in September 2003 and the hospital broke ground on the new ER, Urgent Care, and expanded CT Scan and Ultrasound areas as well. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Director of Surgical Services will be responsible for all day-to-day responsibilities of a 5 suite Operating Room and a staff of 30 FTE's. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Prepares an annual budget including operational, expenditures, revenue and allocation of personnel resources.
Monitors and controls the expenditures of departmental resources, analyzes and explains variances and makes adjustments in accordance with departmental activity.
Participates in development and implementation Performance Improvement.
Directs and manages personnel which includes hiring, orientation, counseling, discipline, training education, evaluation, and termination according to current policy.
Serves as role model for interpersonal communication, especially in relationships with staff, patients, and families, medical staff, other departments and administration.
Shows active interest and active participation in committees pertaining to area of expertise and participates in and /or supports staff in involvement on facility committees, task forces and teams.
Investigates and documents risk management events. Promotes Saftety Practices.
Develops and collaborates with nursing staff, physicians, and other clinicians to promote improvements in patient care, and adheres to current standards of care in determining patient care policies.
Assures departmental JCAHO compliance.
Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of current trends.
Performs other functions as required.
Position will report to the Chief Nursing Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's Degree in Nursing, prefer a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Current New Mexico Registered Nurse License.
Three to five years experience in clinical nursing in the operating room.
A minimum of two to five years managing an operating room.
Prefer candidates with a certification in the Operating Room (CNOR).
