Echo/Vascular Sonographer

According to unit and hospital policies and procedures, the Cardiology Sonographer I is responsible for the performance of non-invasive cardiovascular procedures including but not limited to adult and pediatric echocardiography procedures. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while also promoting optimal unit operations. The Sonographer I adheres to the customer service standards while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment.

EDUCATION: Required:
1.High school diploma or equivalent.
2.Successful completion of an accredited cardiac sonography program.

EXPERIENCE:Required: Six months experience performing echocardiographic procedures. **Clinical preceptorship time may qualify for this requirement.
**Preferred:
1.One year hospital experience performing adult and pediatric echocardiography.
2.Proficiency in performing pharmacological and non-pharmacological stress echo, transesophageal echocardiography, and intra-operative transesophageal echocardiography.
3.Competency in performing arterial doppler studies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.Utilize open, professional communication (verbal, non-verbal, and written) to directly interact with physicians, patients, guests, and other health team members.
2.Make decisions of moderate difficulty that reflect both knowledge and good judgement.
3.Handle confidential information regarding patient activities.
4.Demonstrate an effective working knowledge of all equipment used in Cardiology and related to their job functions.
5.Achieve competency in performing 12-18 lead EKG's, rhythm strip, Signal Average EKG, pediatric EKG, holter application and removal, multi-stage stress test
6.Demonstrate competency in arrhythmia interpretation.
7.Participate in budget control.
8.Work with patients ranging in life span from infant to geriatric.
9.Accepts shift work and participates in a rotating call schedule.
10.Ability to demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of adult and pediatric echocardiography.
11.Ability to achieve competency in performing arterial doppler studies.
12.Demonstrate competency in phlebotomy.
13.Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Required:
1.BLS (CPR) certification
2.Registry eligible
Preferred: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
