INFECTION CONTROL NURSE

$5,729 - $7,165 Monthly

DESCRIPTION:
Natividad Medical Center currently is seeking an Infection Control Nurse to coordinate all infection control activities for the hospital, including staff education in prevention and control of infection; to investigate suspected infectious outbreaks in the hospital; and to perform other duties as required.

SIGNIFICANT DUTIES
? Reviews patient charts for staff compliance to infection control standards; inspects hospital physical plant to ensure compliance to infection control standards
? Investigates suspected violations (outbreaks) within the hospital by discussing case management of patients with infectious diseases with other professional staff in order to effectively control the spread of disease
? Prepares mandated documentation forms; gathers statistical data and prepares reports
? Reviews professional literature, new products, and changing infection control standards; attends meetings and conferences; updates appropriate hospital policies and procedures
? Provides in-service training on infection control procedures to hospital staff; orients new employees to infection control practices
? Discusses methods and procedures for the prevention and/or control of infectious diseases with infection control experts
? May assist with any of the various activities related to quality assurance, utilization review or discharge planning programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing is required. (A copy must be attached to application materials.

Thorough Knowledge of: Nursing principles, methods and procedures; and medical equipment procedures

Working Knowledge of: Aseptic procedures in a hospital setting; medical terminology; etiology and treatment of infectious disease

Skill and Ability to: Assess potential infectious disease problems in a hospital setting and take appropriate action; maintain accurate records and prepare clear and concise written reports; communicate effectively on infection control matters to groups, hospital staff and other health professionals; work effectively with minimum supervision; and establish and maintain cooperative, effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work

WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent must be willing to work with potentially hazardous and infectious substances/organisms such as bodily fluids or blood.

2. QUALIFICATIONS APPRAISAL: Completed application materials will be competitively evaluated. The best-qualified applicants will be invited to participate further in the process.

3. QUALIFICATIONS ASSESSMENT: To further assess applicants? possessions of required qualifications, this process may include an oral examination, pre-exam exercise, performance exam, physical ability exam, or written examination.

4. ELIGIBLE LIST: Applicants successful in the Qualifications Assessment process will be placed on an eligible list for possible final selection interview. This eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

? Paid Time Off (PTO): A combination of vacation, holidays, bereavement and sick leave that accrues at the rate of 8.93 hours per pay period, to a maximum of 29 days per year. The rate increases after 5 and 10 years of service
? Educational Leave: H Unit employees are granted paid leave for educational purposes on a calendar year basis, with administrative approval, with accrual based on the number of continuing education units required to maintain their license.
? Retirement Plan: 100% of PERS retirement contributions paid by the County.
? Social Security/ Medicare: The County participates in these programs.
? Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $5,250 per year in tuition assistance paid by the County.
? Deferred Compensation: The County has a voluntary deferred compensation program.
