This position is located at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Beth Israel Medical Center is a 1,368-bed, full-service tertiary teaching hospital that was founded on Manhattan's Lower East Side before the turn of the 20th century. Beth Israel originally was dedicated to serving a vulnerable population in that community. Now a century later, the Medical Center serves individuals and families from every walk of life throughout New York City and beyond.

 

Opportunity:

Infection Control Practitioner/Infection Control Officer

Beth Israel Medical Center, one of the most respected heath care facilities in New York City  and a major teaching/referral hospital for Manhattan, is seeking a motivated, energetic person to join the Department of Infection Control as a full-time Infection Control Officer (ICO).  The ICO will be responsible for carrying out surveillance activities, develop infection control policies, and monitor their application.  The ICO will also provide in-service education, assist in evaluating exposures to bloodborne pathogens, report infections to regulatory agencies and institute appropriate isolation/precautions.  The ICO reports to the Hospital Epidemiologist. 

 

Requirements:

Basic knowledge of infectious diseases, microbiology, BA/BS in microbiology, public health or nursing degree is required.  An advanced degree, experience in infection control and good investigative skills are preferred.  The ability to communicate, write, work and educate independently is a must.  Basic computer skills are required.
