National Director of Clinical Services, Nurse Manager Long Term Care
POSITION: Director of Clinical Services
DEPARTMENT: CLINICAL SERVICES
REPORTS TO: Vice President Clinical Services
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides leadership and overall direction for Clinical Services provided by the company. Establishes clinical standards and procedures and assures that personnel have appropriate credentials and training to deliver care consistently to Company, State, Federal, JCAHO, and OSHA Standards. Supervises the development of new clinical products or services.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree in Nursing. Current RN license.
EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in standards development. Three years experience in nursing leadership.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Current knowledge and understanding of patient focused care management model. Current knowledge of nursing practice. Ability to plan and develop new programs using a cost effective interdisciplinary approach. Freedom to travel. Must also possess the following management abilities: planning, organizing, cooperation, flexibility, and decision making. Also prefer a candidate with a personal profile that demonstrates: problem solving, creativity, communication, personal motivation, emotional adjustment, and accuracy and thoroughness in completing assignments.
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Provides leadership and direction for all clinical services provided by the Company. Fosters a clinical culture of delivering outstanding clinical services and results.
2. Directs the development of policies, procedures, standards of care, standards of practice, and protocols, to meet the needs of payors, referral sources, residents/patients, and physicians.
3. Work with Area Vice Presidents (AVPs), Regional Directors of Operations (RDOs), Area Directors of Clinical Services (ADCSs), Compliance Directors and senior corporate staff in assisting to determine strategies to achieve proficiency of care givers, efficiency of resources, and positive clinical outcomes.
4. Organizes and directs the process of developing new clinical programs for delivering care consistent with the needs of referral sources and the Company?s profit goals. Works with clinical staff to develop and implement clinical pathways for cost effective disease state management of higher acuity complex medical patients.
5. Organizes and directs the process of developing tools to assure appropriate patient classification, predict length of stay, determine required resource utilization, and provide cost effective, clinically proficient services in a financially captivated market.
6. Attends area and corporate wide meetings with center clinical staff to facilitate discussion on issues related to the delivery of clinical services, to understand the unique needs of the centers, and to obtain consistency of clinical practice throughout the organization.
7. Monitors clinical practice, identifies problems and works with clinical, compliance, and operations personnel to develop and implement plans to correct inconsistencies and revise standardized practices.
8. Participates in the development and implementation throughout the Company of outcome measurement systems and utilizes this information to redesign or improve clinical programs or systems in order to improve outcome results that meet or exceed market requirements.
9. Assures that area, regional, and center personnel are fully trained in the Care Management Systems (Preadmission, Admission, Care Delivery, Concurrent Review, Discharge Planning, and Retrospective Review) and all clinical meetings are consistently utilized throughout the Company.
10. Supervises the development and implementation of training and credentialing programs for corporate, area, regional, and center staff to assure that they are qualified to provide services that meet the Company?s standards of practice and care.
11. Meets regularly with the ADCS to determine the needs within the centers and coordinates development and/or revision of tools and Train the Trainer programs to meet those needs.
12. Coordinates efforts by the Clinical Services staff to meet Center and Corporate needs by identifying the most urgent needs, allocating resources, and providing services (i.e. redesigning systems, conducting ongoing educational efforts) in order to ensure compliant and efficient clinical practices at all centers.
13. Reviews and evaluates the performance of direct reports in order to identify training needs, distribute rewards, and/or guide performance improvements.
14. Terminates subordinates, as necessary, by reviewing performance documentation and making recommendations to the VP Clinical Services.
15. Coaches direct reports through one-on-one sessions and team meetings in the areas of task performance, establishing priorities, and budget control in order to maximize subordinate performance and development.
