Labor & Delivery/Post Partum/Newborn Nursery

Helping children close to home is one of the driving forces for us at Washoe Health System. We have the most comprehensive maternal and pediatric services in the region.


Whether a new mom has a normal delivery or a high-risk prenatal and complicated delivery, Washoe Medical Center offers her a wide range of maternity services, all on one floor. On average 350-400 babies are born each month. Obstetrical anesthesia service is available 24 hours a day, operating suites are located within the department to accommodate Cesarean sections as needed, and a highly trained Infant Resuscitation Team is present 24 hours daily for high-risk deliveries.


The labor/delivery/recovery rooms are designed to accommodate the birthing process, from labor through delivery and recovery. Mother and baby are cared for together in a family-centered atmosphere where Dads or other designated partners are encouraged to stay and be active members of the birth process.

 

Under the general direction of the Supervisor/Manager and Shared Governance Body, this position provides optimal patient care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of the nursing process and the theory of human caring. The incumbent is accountable for individualized patient outcomes over an entire episode of care. This position is challenged to diagnose and treat human responses to health problems. The incumbent must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and families. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards incumbent must possess a polite, positive attitude while dealing with customers of all ages, social, cultural and economic backgrounds. When possible, the family or those significant to the family are considered as part of the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation efforts of the registered nurse (RN). The RN coordinates care between other professionals as needed. Intensive, continuous critical thinking is required to provide optimally safe patient care when interacting with internal and external contacts and exercising judgment and making decisions.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program, either with an Associates?s Degree, Diploma or a Bachelor?s Degree in nursing. Requires the ability to read, write and speak English. License(s)/ Certification(s):Requires a Nevada State RN license.

Snow, however, is certain (23.5 inches on average per year), though it tends to melt by late afternoon in the valleys. Here, the sun shines more than 300 days a year, providing warm days, cool nights and blue skies.
