Registered Nurse - Department of Psychiatry

SCHEDULE : Part-time Regular. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30am to 5:00pm. 32 hours/week. Day Shift.

 

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred.

 

LICENSE: Current RN license required

 

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR required

 



QUALIFICATIONS; TRAINING/WORK EXPERIENCE:



3 years current psychiatric experience in working with chronic mentally ill patient populations including those with severe major mental illness and co-morbidity. 1-year experience in an outpatient mental health clinic preferred. Experience leading mental health outpatient therapy groups for adults required. Experience providing medical management of psychiatric patients under the supervision of a physician. Ability to provide telephone triage following department P & P's. Continuing education to demonstrate theoretical preparation for leadership as well as clinical skills Excellent attendance record and performance history required. Exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills in English. Must exhibit excellent customer service skills, including courtesy, tact, poise, and cultural sensitivity when interacting with members, families and co-workers. Shifts may vary due to departmental needs. Experience in out patient managed care setting preferred. Spanish speaking required.

 



DUTIES:



Provide patient care through direct contact and telephone triage utilizing written protocols and procedures. Assist physicians with managing clients on psychiatric medications; give advice on medications, treatment regimens, side effects, and medication/drug interaction as per department protocols, and under directions of physicians/nurse practitioner. Crisis intervention per Department P&P's. Assists treatment team in IOP to promote optimal patient care coordination. Manage the psychiatric needs of patients in the outpatient setting under physician supervision. Participate in the development of patient treatment plans in conjunction with physician. Participate in the review of development of psychiatric nursing P&P's. Provide family teaching. Assist families in community resources. Co-lead medication groups/classes with MD. Schedule: Will vary to meet operational needs in the Adult, Child, CDS and IOP clinics. Hours may include day and evening shifts. Position includes Gilroy and Santa Teresa Facility hours.
