Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.  Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

? Perform medical screenings at intake.

? Respond to resident medical needs by reviewing, prioritizing and conducting clinic visits.  Triage medical complaints and provide nursing care to clients.

? Act as liaison between physicians and medical service providers.

? Supervise resident compliance with prescribed medical regimen and oversee self-administration of medication.

? Advise and consult with clinical treatment team regarding medical matters.

? Provide HIV/AIDS and other health care seminars as requested.

? Observe patients and report adverse reactions to medication and/or treatment, signs of illness or changes in patient condition immediately to ARNP or Medical Director

? Perform drug screen urinalysis and record and report results.

? Maintain client medical record according to professional nursing documentation standards.

? Place orders for resident prescriptions.

? Maintain medical supplies and equipment.

? May assist ARNP with physical examinations as requested.

? Respond to medical emergencies at the direction ARNP or Medical Director

? Assist in preparation and storage of medical forms, and/or departmental reports as requested.

? Knowledge of general nursing care and procedures.

? Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal relationship skills.

? Excellent observation, decision-making and organization skills.

? Knowledge of emotional and physical needs of substance abusers.

? Ability to work with a diverse criminal justice population.

? Ability to establish appropriate boundaries and un-possessive, professional relationships with all clients in treatment, including former clients served.

? Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority.

? Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

? Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns.  This includes the ability to help build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the team.

? Ability to operate general office equipment in the completion of job responsibilities.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  None

 

Continuing Education:

This position is classified as direct service.  Must maintain required continuing education specifically related to any certification/license held, Phoenix House requirements, and regulatory and licensing agency requirements.

 

Education, License, Certification and Experience:

Must possess State of Florida License as a Registered Nurse (RN).  License must be current and valid and free of documented disciplinary or corrective action.  Must possess 2-5 years previous nursing experience.  Previous experience working in a therapeutic community (TC), substance abuse treatment, corrections or mental health environment strong preferred.
