Nursing Supervisor - Special Procedures

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Washoe Imaging at 75 Pringle and the Manager of Washoe Imaging at WMC, and the direction of the interventional radiologist on duty, the incumbent coordinates nursing coverage for all Washoe Imaging locations while representing the vision and mission of Washoe Health System. Additionally, the incumbent functions as an integral member of the nursing team to provide care to patients undergoing radiological procedures. This position will be responsible for Policies and Procedures, and JCAHO as it relates to all Washoe Imaging locations. 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Nurse Supervisor acts as a role model, resource, and coach staff to provide ongoing support for professional development, maintenance of the standards of care and quality outcomes. The Nurse Supervisor facilitates professional relationships between physicians, nursing and interdisciplinary teams to provide a patient focused plan of care. The Nurse Supervisor requires leadership skills and flexibility to adjust hours to be a resource to all shifts. The Nurse Supervisor will be responsible for engaging the nursing staff to provide evidence based practice, promoting desired patient outcomes and ensuring that practice is congruent with the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Technological advances dictate that the Nurse Supervisor is well versed in procedures common to the department or unit served. In addition, proficiency in the techniques of leadership and adult learning theories are necessary to coordinate the activities of all health team members, and to maintain positively engaged, competent nursing staff. Other challenges of this position include the ability to recognize dynamics of change and respond appropriately within the context of accepted current theory. Creativity and innovation is expected from the incumbent to help staff function as a high performance work team and to promote staff retention. The incumbent demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety requirements of patients ranging in age from infant, child, adult, and geriatric, and meets standards of quality as measured by the department age-specific competency standards. The Washoe Imaging Nursing Supervisor will be responsible for nursing staff evaluations, establish and monitor nursing competencies, provide appropriate discipline if needed, hire and potentially terminate nursing staff. Administrative responsibilities will comprise less than 20% of their time commitment.

Some of these hazards could include, but are not limited to: Radiation, Toxic Chemicals, Biological Hazards, Heat, Noise, Dust and Stress. Washoe Health Systems has a Safety Management Program in place addressing these issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Requires the ability to read, write and speak English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain State of Nevada Registered Nurse licensure. A Bachelor of Science degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years in an acute care hospital setting, with critical care experience given preference.

License(s)/ Certification(s): Requires current State of Nevada Registered Nursing license and CPR/BLS. Incumbent must obtain ACLS certification and PALS certification within 90 days of hire.
