BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY SERVICES ASSISTANT

Full-time 72 hrs per pay period, night shift 7 pm-7:30 am, Th-Sa

Description:

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY SERVICES ASSISTANT provides patient and family focused care as part of the health care team in accordance with SCMC mission, philosophy, policies and procedures and within the parameters established by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Maintains reliable and consistent attendance. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with CHC policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:
1. Recognizes, reports and records observations and care given.
2. Listens effectively.
3. Gives clear directions and reinforces teaching to patients and families regarding basic health care needs.
4. Follows directions in the delivery of care.
5. Transports patients and specimens safely and effectively.
6. Prepares patient areas after use (i.e. cleaning and restocking).
7. Additional duties as assigned, including ER and EKG.
8. Technical skills:
a. Maintains competency in supportive care for the Psychiatric Emergency Services Department.
b. Operates equipment safely.
c. Carries out nursing orders within Scope of Duties.

Requirements:
Education: High school graduate required. Willingness to take additional courses as requested. Higher education and/or continued education in the area of psychology preferred.

Registration: Certified Nursing Assistant with the Oregon State Board of Nursing, or Certified EMT Basic with the State of Oregon, or Certified First Responder with the State of Oregon. CPR and AED certification preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in the area of registration/certification and previous experience working with mental health patients required.

Job Knowledge: Basic knowledge and ability to perform specified tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology, problem-solving skills, and the disease process necessary. Must maintain knowledge of and practice safe body mechanics according to SCMC policies. Excellent communication skills required (both oral and written.)

Computer Literacy: Ability to learn and apply basic computer skills including locating and opening documents, completing forms, opening and sending messages. Proficiency and experience with maneuvering electronic medical record preferred.
