Mental Health Specialist II-Bilingual

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Bilingual Mental Health Specialist is responsible for assessing and providing behavioral interventions to children and families with multiple psychosocial needs in-home, child care, pre schools and other community based settings. Also provides educational and empowerment activities to groups of parents in different community settings.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Provide behavior interventions to children 15 months to 5 years in-home, child care, preschool and community settings. Maintain written records for patient case load per policy and procedures.

2. Contributes to welfare of clients by consulting regularly with clinical supervisors regarding ethical, professional, and clinical policy and procedure.  Maintain a positive attitude toward clients, peers and supervisors.

3. Participate in Treat Team Meetings in a professional manner and contribute to team care and coordination of cases.

4. Assess child?s psycho-social, health and cultural factors impacting the family and child.  Develops individualized intervention plans that incorporate the behavioral/emotional needs of the child and also addresses other factors impacting the family such as substance abuse and domestic violence. 

5. Work with the child individually and encourages parent participation in the implementation of the intervention plan.

6. Ensure medical records are maintained according to quality improvement guidelines, program and agency policies and procedures, contract requirements and government law. 

7. Represent the program and agency through participation in community health and social welfare organizations, professional associations, as related to the interest of staff, clients, program and agency. 

8. Participate in treatment planning and Quality Improvement activities as designated by the Program Manager.

10.  Provide empowerment/educational activities to groups of parents with children with behavioral problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Minimum of Bachelors, preferably Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work or equivalent experience. 

EXPERIENCE: Must have experience assessing children and family?s needs and assisting them in using medical care, community and family support systems to achieve optimal level of health and functioning. At least two years experience working with children with emotional/behavioral problems in outpatient, in-home or community based settings providing behavior interventions and family therapy.

OTHER: Must be bilingual in English/Spanish. Must have own transportation with valid California Driver?s License and proof of liability insurance.
