Computerized ADHD Treatments in School Settings (CATS)

The overall goal of our research is to evaluate two computer-based treatments for children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in a middle school setting. Therapies for ADHD traditionally focus on behavioral treatment and/or medications. Computer-based attention training methods are currently being studied as another form of treatment and have received preliminary support. Definitive, well-controlled research on the efficacy of such methods is urgently needed.  This study will look at two different kinds of computer-based attention training systems to see if they can teach children who have ADHD to pay better attention.

Each participating child will participate in 40-minute sessions twice a week for a period of 4 months. The intervention will occur during a free period in the middle of the school day so that classroom instruction will not be affected. Parents, children, and teachers will complete a systematic assessment before and after treatment.

 

Research Assistant (RA):

Description: The research assistant will work with research investigators and school psychologists at each middle school to facilitate the project.  Specifically, the research assistant will have three primary responsibilities:To act as a coach for participating children, which involves administering  computer-based treatments and recording behavioral observations To coordinate the activities of other coaches we will hire for the project To coordinate data collection and data management. RA?s will be responsible for entering data and maintaining databases in Access and SPSS.

Job details:Schedule: 20 hours per week, including M-F 11-1 pm; other hours flexible. Full-time employment may be available by also working with the same team on another research project. Location: Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston

Qualifications:Bachelor?s degree Car Responsible, organized, self-directive, assertive, problem-solver Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Computer skills a plus (Excel, Access, SPSS) Language skills, especially Spanish, a plus
