Meaningful Work Experience



 

Work beside some dedicated, altruistic people who are pioneers at heart.  Some employees have given their entire careers and lives to serve a people who suffer from socioeconomic conditions and who still fish and hunt for sustenance.  These native Alaskan Yupik people embrace and encourage family values and love their community.  The Yupik people believe that their elders are to be respected and valued. Some other employees will give these native people a portion of their career, benefiting from the rich cultural experience and receiving satisfaction from giving to an underserved people. Those that come to a place called Bethel, Alaska will also serve over 58 villages that span a territory the size of Oregon.  Many of these villages still do not have running water.  These people truly appreciate the medical assistance provided to them, giving those that serve respect and honor.

 

Fair Compensation

 

Compensation for your profession is market competitive, offering $69,742 - $76,716.20.  Benefits are particularly good with extremely low co-pays for full health insurance.  A single person pays just $10 bi-weekly, a family $30 bi-weekly.  The retirement plan is also very good with a matching program in addition to a generous amount put in your retirement for each and every employee. Signing and retention Bonus programs are provided.  A very competitive relocation package offered. 

 

Eligibility for Loan Repayment up to $20,000.00 per Year

 

In order to help assist these underserved people, the Indian Health Services (IHS) has loan repayment programs available.  Loan repayment is not guaranteed with offer of employment, as all employees must apply directly through Indian Health Services.  Since this is not absolutely guaranteed, we ask that you do not make this program your sole reason to come work in Bethel.  Instead, look at it as a potential added bonus for serving your fellow man.  Opportunities for other scholarships through the National Health Services Corp. is also available for eligibility.

The Opportunity



Located in either Toksook Bay or St. Mary's subregional clinics.  Remote Village setting. 

 

Description:  The individual in this position will provide direct clinical supervisory services to the Behavioral Health Aides in Village Services. The individual will supervise, train staff, and coordinate client care in their designated sub regional area. The individual in this position will also facilitate the provision of a safe, healthy, structured environment; engage clients and families a therapeutic alliance, and function as an active member of the multi-disciplinary Behavioral Health treatment team. Close collaboration with all the child-serving agencies in the region is required.

 

Requirements: 

Minimum Education: Master?s Degree in Human Services related field with a minimum of three years experience with drug & alcohol issues. If in recovery, prefer three years sobriety.

 

Minimum Experience: Positive work history. Two years of supervised experience providing carious various Behavioral Health direct clinical care services to children and adults performed at a satisfactory level. Experience in a cross-cultural setting preferred. Required License, Certification, or Registration: Alaska Driver?s License required, and provide a copy of current driving record. Must provide a criminal record check/background. Must obtain State of Alaska Professional Clinical License within 6 months of employment at YKHC-BH. Substance Abuse certification preferred. 

 

Equipment & Tools: Must have basic computer knowledge: word processing, spreadsheets. Standard office equipment usage skills. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and understanding the impact of mental illness and emotional distress on children and their families. Ability to travel 4-5 times a month in small planes sometimes under harsh winter conditions. Respect for the well being and the safety of children with mental and emotional impairments. Knowledge of and ability to implement treatment-planning format utilized in behavioral health services. Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostics and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and ability to formulate and document the Five Axis diagnostic format. Ability to provide psychosocial assessment, treatment, and discharge planning services to children in various states of emotional and mental turmoil. Excellent human relations skills; ability to direct and coordinate staff and staff training & development. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to treat clients and co-workers courteously and fairly, ability to do time management, facility budgeting and grant management. Ability to work cooperatively with community partners, and especially tribal councils. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Theoretical knowledge of care management and continuity of care. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervision of Behavioral Health Aide staff.
