JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Appointment Scheduler provides clerical support to the patient appointment call center.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Answers calls and schedules patient appointments in an Incoming Call Center. Educates patients on basic TRICARE plan options. Registers new patients in the Government's Composite Health Care System (CHCS). Updates demographic data on existing patients. Performs Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) checks prior to scheduling medical appointments. Query patients to determine their medical need. Read and interpret clinic criteria and book medical appointments. Reviews computerized appointment templates to determine the availability of appointment types and slots. Coordinates specialty care referrals with medical clinics and Health Care Finders. Identify, analyze and resolve a variety of scheduling issues. Maintain, review, and update appointment criteria books. Contact patients to reschedule appointments canceled by the medical facility. Additional duties as required to support Appointment Center needs.

Certification/License:


 


Experience:

Minimum one year experience in a medical setting or customer service environment.
Experience with computers including word processing.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and telephone skills
Ability to establish and sustain an objective working alliance with patients, employees, and the government.
Ability to accurately type 35 wpm.


OR
Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.


 


As a Government contractor, this position requires U.S. Citizenship and proof of favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF85P or higher security.
