ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

Direct Patient Care Responsibilities

 

? Demonstrates proficiency in the care of  pediatrics, adolescents and adults.

? Independently provides and coordinates age-appropriate occupational therapy treatment plans and treatment in routine patient care situations.

? Completes timely documentation under the supervision of an OTR and as required by departmental policy, JCAHO, and CARF standards.

? Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.

? Consults with other services, families and outside agencies to recommend equipment, home or school modifications, transition of care etc.

? Attends inservices/ continuing education; provides updates in the form of inservices to the department.

? Participates in meeting goals of the department

? Assists in maintenance of department equipment.

? Assists with maintenance of department equipment, communication, schedules, resource files, inventory and preparing treatment materials/plans.

 

 

Indirect Patient Care Responsibilities

 

? Staff development: Assesses existing and develops new activities that promote general knowledge and professionalism within the department; mentor volunteers and techs; participates in peer review process.

? CQI: Participate in program, discipline, specialty and hospital-wide CQI projects

? Assessment and Treatment: Contributes to discipline and program committees to enhance patient care; assesses current procedures and assists in developing methods of improvement related to patient care, including treatment protocols and critical/clinical pathways.

? Program Development: Participate in activities to increase program use, awareness and marketability.

? Clinical Education: Assists in mentoring affiliating occupational therapy students, new occupational therapy staff, support personnel, and volunteers.  Assist with hospital-wide student teaching; participate in student and volunteer program organization.

? Team work: Participates in and leads single discipline, multidisciplinary and specialty teams.

? Professional Development: Develop ties with professional organizations. Provides educational inservices and experiences to the department and outside community beyond mandated staff inservice from continuing education courses. Attends Occupational Therapy meetings as scheduled in the hospital. May participate in promotional activities for Occupational Therapy (in hospital).

? Mandatory Inservice Training: Completes mandatory inservice training yearly which includes  but is not limited to bio-terrorism, HIPPA, safety, infection control and corporate compliance training, CPR and program specific respiratory training.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

I. Education, Training and Experience:

A. A.A. in O.T. from an AOTA approved School.

B. Two years Rehab or Peds experience preferred.

 

II. Other Requirements:

A. Skills in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) with adaptive equipment training and fabrication required.

B. Strong multispecialty knowledge and experience as related to pediatrics.

C. Has successfully demonstrated Clinical Competencies as described by the department for this position  description.

C.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

III. License, Registration, or Certification:

A.  Delaware State License to practice Occupational Therapy as an Assistant (COTA)

B.  NBCOT certification preferred.

C.  CPR certification (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) within 6 months of hire.

D.  Member of professional specialty organizations (AOTA, Delaware OT Assoc.), preferred.
