LAB ASSISTANT SPECIMEN PROCESS

Schedule: Relief, day shift, various days & weekends

Description:

LAB ASSISTANT SPECIMEN PROCESS will process specimens from in-house draws and courier runs and to assist clients from outside the laboratory with questions or problems.

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with SCMC policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:

1. Process specimens to maintain their integrity, for both in-house and to be sent out to reference labs.
2. Process client orders in the computer.
3. Supply information to all clients and assist with any problems.
4. Receive and properly distribute reports.
5 Assist with other work as directed by the team leader.

Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Some college preferred with above average grade point.

Registration: None

Experience: Minimum of two years lab experience preferred. Phlebotomy experience/certification preferred. Computer training and medical terminology preferred. Must have ability to communicate with others, write legibly, and be well organized and efficient.

Job Knowledge: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that would assure the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position.

Computer Literacy: Ability to learn and apply basic computer skills including locating and opening documents, completing forms, opening and sending e-mail messages.
