Lab Technician

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: TECHNICAL DUTIES Accurate and timely performance of pre-polymerase chain reaction laboratory standard operating procedures as required.

Record and initial the completion of all steps of procedure as indicated on worklists/run sheets and procedure manual.

Recognize deviations from expected procedures and report incident to supervisor or manager.

Learn operating and maintenance procedures for equipment as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with established protocol. Recognize instrumental behavior that may affect analytical measurements and results and take appropriate corrective action.

Respond to managers inquiries regarding test procedure, factors affecting tests, specificity and sensitivity of assays.

Specifically responsible for the performance of but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription, PCR set up, reagent preparation, aliquoting reagents, completing all necessary documentation, refrigerator and freezer temperature observation and visual inspection, and other laboratory duties as needed.



OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES



Clean and disinfect work area daily or as needed.



Follow safety procedures and regulations in the laboratory.



Participate in continuing education programs when available and seek to improve skills.



Follow company policies and procedures at all times.



OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES



Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.



MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



Satisfactory oral and written skills.

Ability to take accurate readings from equipment, etc.

Ability to perform technical testing including problem solving.

Ability to complete duties in a timely and efficient manner.

Ability to sit/stand for majority of work period.

Ability to wear gloves during testing.

Ability to lift and move boxes or other up to 30 pounds.

Ability to work in close quarters as needed.
