Surgical Coder

Summary: The position provides for the auditing of medical record documentation to determine if the documents support the level of care billed for these services IAW Medicare federal insurance and third party billing compliance regulations. Specific Tasks: Apply knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding for documentation of billing. Conduct prospective audits of medical record documentation of physicians within General Surgery Identify charges for correction of erroneous billing Identify high risk areas that require auditing through use of billing reports Identify those physicians who are not in compliance Report all findings of audits to compliance officer Train physicians in documentation guidelines Remain current with any changes in ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding Remain current with Medicare, federal insurance and third party billing compliance regulations Common Tasks: Prepare Correspondence Create Spread Sheet Answer telephones Organize and Maintain General Office Files Operate Office Equipment(i.e. copiers, fax machines and personal computers) Soft Skills and additional duties: Task prioritization, work independently, problem solving and organizational skills. Interact with others to gather or disseminate information Assists with General Surgery Office Management Tasks as required Computer Literacy: MS Office 97-Word, Excel, Outlook CCC-TOC/Copay, Referral Management, Appointment Scheduling, Provider Scheduling Basic
