Pediatric Physical Therapist
JOB TITLE: Physical Therapist
DEPARTMENT: Physical and Occupational Therapy Department
REPORTS TO: Director of Physical and Occupational Therapy Department
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUMMARY:
Plan and write, in cooperation with teams of medical specialists, special and regular educators and other agency staff, an appropriate developmentally and educationally based therapy program for children ages birth to 21 in need of physical therapy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Evaluate children referred for suspected physical disabilities.
? Collaborate with Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams to write IEP?s and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
? Provide direct therapy to identified children using a variety of techniques.
? Provide consultation to teachers and parents for children not requiring direct intervention by a physical therapist.
? Monitor progress of individual children toward IEP goal attainment and reports in verbal and written form.
? Provide training to all supportive personnel, implementing those portions of the treatment plan assigned to them.
? Assess adaptive equipment needs and assist in the provision of appropriate equipment and monitors its effectiveness.
? Develop and coordinate interagency resources required to carry out the therapy plan.
? Provide supervision, direction and evaluation of physical therapy trainees undergoing practicum training.
? Assist with and/or initiates dissemination of information concerning physical therapy services to the community, individuals, and agencies.
? Be attentive to the operational procedures at each school in which a program exists; keeps the building principal informed of the activities in their building.
? Promote and participate in the ongoing improvement of the Physical/Occupational Therapy program through development and implementation of innovative evaluation, treatment, record keeping, and case coordination.
? Assist program coordinator in developing program goals that are supportive of the goals established by the Student Services Department of the Umatilla-Morrow ESD.
? Develop, in cooperation with program Director, personal annual goals and objectives and assumes responsibility for seeing these goals are accomplished.
? Use a computer for extended periods of time to write reports and complete logs and other required paperwork.
? Perform other reasonable duties that from time to time may be assigned to meet the usual and unusual demands placed on the organization.
? Comply with ESD Performance Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid drivers license and have reliable, insured transportation for required travel around the ESD service area.
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE:
Credential meeting current certification requirements as set forth by the State of Oregon Licensing Board for Physical Therapists. Individual will be a Graduate of an accredited college of Physical Therapy. At least three years of experience with children with disabilities in an educational setting.
SKILLS:
? Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
? Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
? Experience or knowledge of developmentally delayed students.
? Demonstrated ability to work with staff, parents and children.
? Demonstrated knowledge of etiology and characteristics of common developmental disabilities and the impact on child?s abilities.
? Demonstrated interest and skill in serving physically and/or mentally disabled children.
? Demonstrated patience, warmth, and capacity for acceptance of children with special needs.
? Possess effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with teachers, specialists, assistants and parents.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Therapist may occasionally be required to travel on over night assignments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Specifically:
? Sit for extended periods of time in vehicle, desk and various sized school furniture.
? Use hands for repetitive movements.
? Frequently bend, squat, twist and climb stairs.
? Lift up to 50 lb. occasionally and 25 lb frequently.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
190 day annual contract. Any changes in contract days will be stipulated in each individual contract. Salary and benefits to be established by the UMESD Education Association in accordance with negotiated agreement with the UMESD Board of Directors. Schedule and assignments to be established by Department Director.
