Description:

REHABILITATION THERAPY AIDE assists with quality patient care by providing support to physical, occupational, speech therapists and social workers on the acute, outpatient, and inpatient rehabilitation teams. This includes clerical, clean up of the department, patient care assistance with close supervision of the therapist, ordering supplies, and general organizational assistance as listed on skills checklist. Caregiver will take initiative to assist department personnel in completing tasks and will perform other duties as assigned by staff.

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with SCMC policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:
a. Provides assistance to occupational and physical therapists, speech pathologists, and social workers on a day to day basis..
b. Works as an effective member of the rehabilitation team.
c. Able to support rehabilitation clerk with assigned tasks when appropriate including filing, charges, and distribution of paperwork to therapists.
d. Maintains competency, operates equipment when indicated and carries out therapist directives within scope of practice.
e. Participates in planning, cleaning, ordering, and stocking supplies for units.
f. Plays an active role in equipment management for the unit including maintenance, tracking and cleaning of all pertinent equipment.
g. May be required to drive Rehabilitation Van. If requested, must meet all requirements laid out in Work Instruction.

Requirements:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Pre-professional course work desired but not required. Applicant to complete 40 hours on the job training specific to direct patient care within orientation process. CNA certification desirable.

Registration: Current valid Oregon driver's license. Current CPR Certification required.

Experience: No experience is necessary, but prior hospital and/or rehabilitation experience is preferred.

Job Knowledge: Knowledge of medical terminology, problem-solving skills, and concept of rehabilitation processes required. Must have an ability to organize work in an efficient manner and process ability to prioritize effectively. Must possess a positive attitude and utilize good communication skills. Effective team skills including interaction, support, respect and flexibility are required. Able to communicate in a clear and caring manner with people with disabilities and of diverse populations. Ability to effectively deal with change and crisis situations.

Computer Literacy: Ability to learn and apply basic computer skills including locating and opening documents, completing forms, opening and sending e-mail messages.
