Under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Supervisor and or the Team Leaders, the incumbent performs respiratory therapy procedures per protocol and those ordered by physicians to improve the cardiopulmonary conditions of patients from newborn to geriatric ages. RCPII's primarily work with those patients in the critical care units and may provide respiratory care at secondary care sites consistent with the mission and obligations of WHS and the department of Respiratory Care.


NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position is challenged to integrate the respiratory care of the patient with other care providers to achieve desired results and optimal outcomes.

?Respiratory Care? means the treatment, management, diagnostic testing, control and care of persons with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system.

The incumbent has the authority to evaluate respiratory care given, to initiate CPR, to contact physicians in relation to care ordered, and perform all activities as assigned.

The incumbent is responsible for the proper documentation of all patient records and department logs. The incumbent is responsible for keeping abreast of changes in the Respiratory and health care field.

Decisions that must be referred to the supervisor or Team Leader are those pertaining to personnel problems and equipment acquisition.

Intense continuous mental effort is required to provide optimal safe patient care and the same mental effort is required when interacting with internal and external contacts, exercising judgments and making decisions.

It is common to encounter potential hazards in the healthcare environment. Some of these hazards could include, but are not limited to: Radiation, Toxic Chemicals, Biological Hazards, Heat, Noise, Dust, and Stress. Washoe Health Systems has a Safety Management Program in place addressing these issues.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Requires completion of an accredited two-year Respiratory Care Practitioner program or equivalent.

Experience: None.

License(s)/Certification(s):
(1) Registered by the NBRC required.

(2) Current CPR certification required.

(3) ACLS or EKG Interpretation class.

(4) Nevada State Respiratory Care License.

(5)  Required to obtain a Nevada State License for "Blood Gas Technologist" within 30 days of employment.
