Speech Specialist
SALARY RANGE:
$52,265.17 - $70,040.33 Annually
DUTIES:
Under direction, identifies speech/language needs, performs speech/ language/communication consultations and evaluations involving areas of speech, language, oral-motor, swallowing, and alternative communication modalities. Reviews and makes recommendations based on vendored speech evaluations. Works closely with interdisciplinary team members in meeting the communication needs of RCEB consumers, participates in training and development of speech related services at RCEB and works with community resources to promote optimal speech/language/communication communication services for RCEB consumers.
1. Performs and coordinates speech and language evaluations for RCEB consumers. Evaluations will involve speech, language, communication, oral-motor, swallowing, alternative communication modalities and may include comprehensive developmental assessments.
2. Reviews speech evaluations from community based and vendored professionals and advises staff as to the appropriateness of the report and its recommendations.
3. Participates with case manager and other team members in the establishment and implementation of the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)/Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and objectives for RCEB consumers.
4. Provides educational information to clients, parents, Regional Center staff and the community regarding specialized speech/language and communication needs of RCEB consumers.
5. Develops and presents parent and staff education programs on topics related to speech, language, and communication.
6. Assists in determining applicants? eligibility for regional center services.
7. Participates in the development and monitoring of speech services in the community.
8. Represents RCEB at meetings, committees, conferences on speech, language and communication topics.
9. Assists in determining and evaluating the augmentative and alternative communication needs of consumers.
10. Advocates with community resources including schools and health providers to obtain needed services
11. Completes reports and documentation as required.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of professional experience in the treatment of a wide variety of communication disorders, including persons with a developmental disability. Experience in audiology and aural rehabilitation is desirable.
1. Master?s degree in speech/language pathology from an accredited college or university.
2. Two (2) years of professional experience in the treatment of a wide variety of communication disorders, including persons with a developmental disability. Pediatric experience preferred.
3. California State License to practice speech pathology.
4. Automobile and valid driver?s license.
