Substance Abuse Counselor

 

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides case management and counseling services to the women with chemical dependency, which may include co-occurring disorders.   The person in this position provides optimal client care using the knowledge and skills of a counseling process and human care environment. Additionally, s/he conducts individual counseling sessions, facilitates group sessions, provides treatment planning and evaluation, and documents all services provided by her/him to clients.  STEP 2 is an EEO.  Position is open until filled.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

I.  Education and Training:  Licensure/certification as drug/alcohol counselor is preferred.  Certification as a Counselor Intern required.  Bachelor?s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field is preferred.

II. Experience:  A minimum of two (2) years experience in substance abuse counseling or related field is preferred.  A combination of education and experience will be considered. .   

III. Knowledge and Abilities:  Knowledge related to basic counseling techniques, case management procedures, intake procedures, and familiarity with the disease concept of addiction/alcoholism and issues related to prenatal substance abuse. Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding client confidentiality, including new HIPAA regulations. Familiarity with available community resources. Ability to write effective, concise, clear progress reports. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, supervisors, and co-workers. Knowledge of and ability to effectively use computers.  Ability to act independently with good judgment
