American Sign Language Interpreter
The Office of Diversity and Disability Affairs has an immediate opening for a Sign Language Interpreter. In this role you will plan, organize, and implement American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services. Interpret complex subject matter in a variety of classified, highly technical, sensitive and unique situations from polygraphs, high profile platform interpreting and highly technical transliterations to training and informational discussions for various disciplines and personnel to include Engineers, mathematicians and Computer Scientists.
Additional responsibilities include:
Serve as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Prepare and manage contracts. Write the statement of work. Develop and maintain accurate and timely spreadsheets on all contracts. Certify invoices and keep records for the Performance Review of the contractors.
Conduct internal training on deaf awareness issues and suggest best practice solutions to problems/issues involving deaf/hard-of-hearing employees.Qualifications: Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an American Sign Language Interpreter
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Certification.
- Adherence to the RID Code of Ethics.
- Superior working knowledge of ASL, Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and Manually Coded English (MCE) in order to simultaneously transliterate in a variety of settings.
- Expert skill indicating nuances and tones associated with verbal communication in order to accurately convey the intended message.
- Ability to interpret highly specialized terminology and adapt to a wide variety of interpreting settings, developing new signs as appropriate to facilitate a Cryptologic associated vocabulary.
- Ability to negotiate and develop informal resolutions with personnel at all levels.
- Knowledge of services, equipment, and resources available in accommodating individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Discretion, professionalism, and sensitivity to people issues and workplace diversity issues are a must.
- Some travel may be required.
