Benefits Communications Analyst-Technical

Job Description -   Responsible for the technical writing and/or editing of ATK Active Health & Welfare (H&W) Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD's), Summary of Material Modifications (SMM's), Open Enrollment and other various employee communications and materials.  Includes the following benefit plans: Health and dental, flexible spending accounts, disability plans (STD & LTD), life insurance, paid time off (PTO and holidays), COBRA, severance, etc.  Also the technical writing and/or editing of ATK Retiree pension, 401(k), and retiree health care and life insurance benefit materials, including SPD's, SMM's, and other communications and materials.

 

Technical writer with significant working knowledge and understanding of Active and Retiree benefit plans, the Federal (ERISA, IRS and DOL) regulations that govern them and to which they must comply, plan administration, coordination of delivery of plan benefits between the plan sponsor and external benefit vendors, and the employee/retiree communication needs to ensure employees and retirees fully understand and appropriately utilize their available benefits.

 

Ability to positively work and consult with Active H&W and Retirement benefits staff members and ATK Corporate Legal on their communication requirements in order to successfully complete technical communications projects from start to finish.  Ability to coordinate logistics of high volume employee communications via both email and hard copy mailings across multiple ATK locations.

 

Ability to develop a centralized online resource for housing benefits communication documents for the Active H&W and Retirement benefits teams.  Online resource to include ad hoc communications to/from individual Active employees, term vested and retirees.

 

Perform a variety of writing assignments in support of Corporate benefit programs/plans.  Also special projects, as needed.

 

Able to work effectively with ATK Corporate Communications staff to coordinate benefits communications to ensure compatibility/consistency with overall ATK communications approaches and strategies.  Coordinate communications between the benefits and retirement staff along with Corporate Communications and other appropriate functional groups within ATK.

 

Education - 

 

Bachelors Degree in Communications or related field. 

 

Experience -

 

5-7 years experience working as a benefits communicator (technical writer) in a large organization and/or employee benefits consulting firm.

 

Strong working knowledge of ERISA, Active health &welfare plans, Pension, 401k, and technical writing of SPDs, SMM's, as well as other employee benefits communications.
