Senior-level technical expert consulting on complex compensation issues for assigned client groups and business units. Directs large business-specific and/or corporate-wide compensation projects and initiatives, and ensures adherence to strategic goals, consistent application of corporate compensation policies and compliance with employment laws and regulations. May have company-wide scope of responsibility in a specialty area.
Performs a combination of the following duties according to departmental guidelines:
1. Directs large business-specific and/or corporate-wide compensation projects and initiatives, and ensures adherence to strategic goals, consistent application of corporate compensation policies and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
2. Identifies, recommends, develops, and implements compensation programs, processes, guidelines and policy to address business needs (e.g., salary structures, custom surveys, incentive plans, executive compensation plans, etc.).
3. Directs the work activities of assigned staff, recommends training and development assignments and completes performance evaluations. Participates in hiring process.
4. Develops and maintains vendor and client relationships, and serves as compensation account manager to internal clients.
5. Consults on or manages the most complex, high-visibility, compensation issues and makes recommendations to management, generalists and other business partners.
6. Makes presentations to client groups regarding compensation programs and initiatives.
7. Acts as technical expert, in a specialty area, to compensation staff and others within the organization, (i.e., executive compensation, broad-based pay programs, incentive compensation).
8. Directs the design, implementation, administration and maintenance of compensation software applications, and trains clients in the use of compensation management and software applications.
9. Stays up-to-date on trends and developments within the compensation function, as well as the insurance industry.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Participates and may represent company at compensation association and industry functions.
2. Performs other essential duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Senior level technical knowledge of compensation theory, practices and applicable laws.
2. Strong working knowledge of financial theory/concepts including an understanding of the financial statement and impacts of compensation programs etc.
3. Strong knowledge of human resources theory, practices and applicable laws.
4. Strong knowledge of the organization's practices and procedures, the insurance industry, the client group and the client's business.
5. Ability to manage a team through the use of group dynamics while encouraging creativity and innovation.
6. Ability to design and develop compensation practices and programs to support strategic business goals.
7. Excellent interpersonal, communication, consulting, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
8. Solid influencing, negotiation and facilitation skills with the ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with customers, peers subordinates and other members of management
9. Expert in administration of existing compensation software applications.
10. Excellent project management, organizational, analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
11. Must be results oriented.
12. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other business related software.
Education and Experience:
1. Master's degree, or equivalent. Professional designation (CCP) preferred.
2. Minimum ten years related work experience with demonstrated proficiency in required compensation skills and abilities.
