Coworker Relations/ HR Generalist - Chicago
CDW , and its subsidiaries, is a publicly held, FORTUNE 500 company providing businesses, government agencies, and education institutions nationwide with multi-brand technology solutions. Recognized in FORTUNE magazine as one of the '100 Best Companies to Work for in America' in 2005 for the eighth consecutive year, CDW is looking for a Coworker Relations Generalist in our downtown Chicago facility.
Purpose of the Position: The purpose of the Coworker Relations Generalist is to support the corporate business partners with implementing corporate policies and facilitating organization and leadership development efforts by working with employees and managers to address root causes of human resources issues. This role will assist management in the development of solutions through culture, processes and best business practices while ensuring compliance of all internal policies and federal/state laws. The generalist role acts as a strategic business partner to achieve CDW?s business initiatives through all coworker relations activities including: advanced employee relations issues, HRIS administration and special projects. Additionally the generalist will act as an advisor to management and serve as a resource center for coworkers.
Essential Functions:
? Administers and communicates CDW?s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal/State laws.
? Ensures legal compliance with federal/state employment laws & regulations.
? Gathers, researches and analyzes all information required to make sound employee relations decisions and recommendations.
o Assists and advises management regarding coworker counseling, PIPs and terminations to ensure consistency with disciplinary actions.
o Settles manager and coworker disputes.
o Resolves advanced employee relations issues.
o Conducts internal investigations (i.e. sexual harassment and discrimination concerns).
? Reviews exit and counseling paperwork to ensure disciplinary action matches behavior and looks for inconsistencies.
? Maintains records with detailed information on any employee relations concerns.
? Enters interactive process with coworker to determine ADA eligibility and decides whether CDW can provide a reasonable accommodation.
? Trains and mentors other Coworker Relations Specialists on internal transfers and applicable employee relations situations.
? Handles all aspects of internal transfers including guiding and advising management on transfer process, conducting interviews and assessing all coworker transfer requests, tracking applicant status, and providing recommendations to coworkers for career development.
? Proposes policy and procedures changes/improvements to instill fair management and best business practices in the industry to increase coworker retention and professional development within CDW.
? Answers coworker questions regarding any company policy, program or benefit.
? Creates, queries and analyzes data using Microsoft Word or Excel to ascertain patterns and make recommendations and/or decisions.
Additional Responsibilities:
? Conducts exit interviews.
? Travels to other CDW locations as needed.
? Acts as a strategic business partner and works collaboratively with other CDW departments.
? Assists in any other special projects or assignments to serve coworkers and supports the management directives of the company.
Organizational Relationships: Interacts with all departments and levels within the CDW organization and reports directly to the Coworker Relations Manager.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor?s degree.
? 4-6 years human resources generalist experience in a population of 500+ coworkers.
? Comprehensive knowledge of human resource legislation and Federal, State, and Local employment laws is imperative.
? Ability to research, assess, and define a variety of employee relations issues and disseminate the appropriate advice.
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
? Strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
? Analytical and technical aptitude along with project management skills.
? Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
? Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects and strong commitment to customer service a must.
? Adaptability to change.
? Knowledge of Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft preferred
