Director - Employee Benefits
As the second oldest company in Georgia, Atlanta Gas Light and its parent AGL Resources are not content to do business in the same old way. Today, AGL Resources is positioned to become the preeminent distributor of natural gas along the east coast, providing service through six utilities, two gas storage facilities and an asset management company.
The Director of Employee Benefits will be responsible for planning and directing employee benefit plans and programs for active employees and retirees; ensures compliance with regulations.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
? Leads the development of long term benefits strategies as part of AGL?s total value proposition.
? Ensures effective internal client relationships through focus on delivering world class customer service through staff as well as client-facing vendors.
? Ensures programs and delivery are both effective and efficient when considered from all important perspectives.
? Originates and oversees design, implementation, and administration of health, dental, life, and accident & disability insurance plans; 401(k) employee savings plan; defined-benefit pension plan.
? Ensures regulatory compliance for benefit-related plans and programs (e.g., HIPAA, ERISA, DOL, IRS, FMLA, PBGC, State of Georgia, company auditors).
? Directs vendor selection for requests for proposals (RFPs); oversees vendor management.
? Directs the development of communications to employees and retirees regarding benefit issues (e.g., changes, additions) with Corporate Communications department.
? Participates in development of labor union negotiation strategies and plans for benefit-related issues.
? Prepares and administers operating budget according to the general business plan and benefit plan delivery. Monitors budget variances. Provides explanations on variances and takes appropriate action.
? Manages staff selection, development and retention. Establishes and monitors work goals and objectives. Coaches, provides feedback and evaluates performance of staff.
? Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance.
Education and Experience Required:
? BA/BS degree and 7-10 years employee benefits experience in an organization of more than 1000 employees
? Expertise in the design and adaministration of health and welfare programs, defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, and regulatory compliance for benefit plans
? A demonstrated passion for excellent customer service
? 3-5 years business and people management experience and vendor management expertise
Preferred:
? MBA or masters level in a benfits or HR related field
Skills Required:
? Situation analysis
? Relationship building and organizational saavy
? Communication with all organizaiton levels
? Ability to work effectively in a matrix type environment
Certifications/Licenses Preferred:
? CEBS or comparable certification
