Director of Career Services
The Director of Career Services is responsible for managing all aspects of the Office of Career Services (OCS), including student success initiatives, the development of strong corporate relationships; marketing the graduates to national, regional and local firms; meeting graduate outcome plans; and overseeing all OCS programs and services offered to students, alumni, and corporate contacts.
Achieving or exceeding the graduate outcome plans is one of the primary responsibilities of this position. This can be accomplished in various ways including but not limiting to:
Marketing of our Career Services programs and our students to employers across the country with the intent to identify possible career opportunities for our graduates.
Co-manage the preparation of students in their career search; this responsibility is shared with the Dean of Academic Affairs. The Director?s role is to develop an environment that promotes career counseling for each program. Plan, oversee, and assist in delivering career programs and workshops designed to prepare students to market themselves in the job market. Some workshops may include self-assessment, resume writing, interviewing, portfolio development, negotiating, and overall job search strategies.
Train, develop and manage a team of employment advisors (graduate advisors and student advisors), support staff and student assistants. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the office, all on-site recruiting activities, and budget.
The Director is an important part of a team which has an integral role in Student Success and the management and improvement of the Ai programs. The Director will work closely with all areas of the school, including the Executive Committee, Admissions, Student Services, Education, Student Financial Services, and Accounting. Contacts inside the school may include students and their parents, faculty and staff. Outside contacts are significant and would include employers, associations, industry professionals including those participating on our Program Advisory Committees, community leaders and many more.
Must pay close attention to details in designing, implementing, and maintaining systems, projects and programs; ability to create innovative or unique solutions to situations or problems; ability to work effectively under pressure, ambiguity, and conflicting goals; ability to be positive and results driven while successfully managing change.
This position reports to the President and operates without close supervision and in a wide range of responsible areas. The Director will support and uphold State, and Federal regulations, National and Regional Accreditation requirements and corporate and campus policies and procedures.
Qualifications include: Undergraduate Degree; Masters preferred; five or more years of proven management skills, career counseling and staffing experience in a corporate or academic setting; ability to plan, coordinate, monitor and motivate the activities of others; clear and effective communication of information, summarization of facts, posing questions, persuasive sales techniques both over the phone and in person including negotiation skills to arrive at shared consensus; superior customer service skills where the desire and ability to listen to the needs of all constituencies and effectively respond in a manner consistent with our Vision, Mission and Values.
